Between 12 kVA and 20 kVA the price roughly quadruples. That is not a shortage of stock in between: it is the point where the market changes from imported budget-brand sets to genuine industrial plant with a dealer network and parts availability. If your load sits near that boundary it is worth sizing carefully, because crossing it is the single most expensive decision in a generator purchase.
The band most Kenyan households buy in. Note the Honda premium: roughly three times a budget import at the same rating, which buys engine hours and parts availability rather than output.
